This rulebook covers the L visa for tourism in mainland China. Hong Kong and Macao have their own visas. The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria says Nigerian citizens should join a tourist group of more than 5 people, with an invitation letter from an authorised travel agency in China. The law says the visa office does not have to give reasons for a refusal, so a refusal letter may name no ground at all. The grounds here come from Article 21 of the Exit and Entry Administration Law, which lists when a visa is not issued, and from the embassy's list of what an L application must contain. The consular officer decides the number of days on the visa, and a short-term visa is at most 180 days. A business trip uses the M visa instead, which needs an invitation from the Chinese company and six months of bank statements.
